9 Life Lessons We Can Learn From The Godfather Movie

Whoever has watched The Godfather movie, recognizes it as one of the best movies ever made. It's not just because of the wonderful performance done by the actors, but also because of the lessons that we can learn from it, which does not include killing or controlling a crime organization, of course.

Without further ado, here are 9 life lessons we can learn from the movie:

1. Whether They Are Friends Or Enemies, It Is Wise To Keep Them Close.

We can't always be friends with everyone, sometimes we may end up having more enemies than we thought, but like Micheal Corleone says:

"Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer."

By doing so, not only we make ourselves unpredictable, but also it gives you the possibility to study them and make them predictable and it lessens the possibility to get hurt.

2. "Never let anybody know what you're thinking." - Micheal Corleone

It happens to many people that, the fact they like to share things with others, they end up revealing what the're thinking, which in some cases you may end up in an uncomfortable situation. The problem is that, by letting others know what's on your mind, makes that easy for them to read your move, making them be one step ahead of you. Doesn't sound that good, does it?

Nobody wants to be under the control of others, so maybe next time you can give just an opinion over something instead of saying everything that comes to your mind, you don't have to lie, of course, in fact - you shouldn't, but don't tell exactly what you're thinking either.

3. Always Find Time To Spend With Your Family.

Something that is very notable during the movies is the bond between the members of the family and the importance and the influence that it had over everyone, we might go as far and say it was considered sacred. After all, the only support that we will never lose is the family, they are always there when you need them.

Spending time with your family helps you get wiser and more responsible, by doing so strengthening your bonds and making you feel more loved and confident.

4. Don't Turn Your back On Your Family Over Anybody.

Nothing and no one is more important than family. Friends are important too, surely, but not over your family, and independently of the situation, you should never turn your back on them.

5. Revenge Doesn't Solve Problems.

A scene in which I was very impressed, was when Don Corleone, on hearing the news of his son being assassinated, decides to not take revenge, but instead he arranges a meeting with the head of the families for peace. It's impressive how wise and reasonable his decision was, considering that he was the head of a crime organization.

Like Don Corleone did, sometimes we should know what action will benefit us most, and to do so being rational with the situation is the best solution. I know, it's not easy as it sounds, but when you find yourself in a situation that you're about to explode of anger, just take a deep breath before taking any reckless action and think if it's worth or not.

6. Hate Makes You Blind.

"When you hate, you take poison and expect the other person to die." - quaker Hector Black on forgiving the man who killed his daughter

This was not a quote from the movie, but it's so relevant and also one of my favorite quotes. I mean, how many times when we're in rage we hate something or someone so bad that we blind ourselves with our judgment to even become irrational? But like a wise man said:

"Never hate your enemies. It affects your judgement." - Don Michael Corleone

7. Friendship Is Very Important.

Before everything and everyone else comes family, we know that, but friends depending on how strong a relationship is, can be considered as much close as  family.

As a both introvert and extrovert, I like to have friends, but only if they are really good ones, otherwise I usually don't socialize with them, because I always consider quality more important than quantity. Still having friends is a good and very important thing.

"Friendship is everything. Friendship is more than talent. It is more than the government. It is almost the equal of family." - Don Vito Corleone.

8. You Have To Give In Order To Get.

Everyone needs some help from others, but you can't just come from nowhere ask for favors. We don't ask for help to just anyone who we see on the streets, of course, but more often to a friend or to a close relative, but you must have a good relationship with them in order to benefit from them (not materially).

"If you would have come to me in friendship, those scums would be suffering this very day." - Don Vito Corleone to Buonasera

9. Stay focused on work.

It is noticed in the movie, how much the businessmen are so concentrated on their work and always determined to finish the job given no matter what. Which means no excuses and especially no distractions.

"I'm here on business I leave tomorrow, now get rid of them. I'm tired. Get rid of the band, too." - Michael Corleone to Fredo when they arrive in Las Vegas
